Bishop Andaya is the Vicar Apostolic of Tabuk, Philippines. He speaks English, French, Chibemba, Ilocano, Kalinga, Tagalog. The Bishop learned and practice art ever since he was a kid. His teachers and his father encouraged him to study Fine Arts at SLU, Missouri, USA. When asked how did he start creating art, he says there's so much beauty in this world which can be inspiration to create art. He looks up to Amorsolo and Marcus Greene, his professor at SLu-Mo., USA as his models in art. He prefers traditional art with cultural motifs. Pastel is quite handy for him, however, he also have some oil paintings. He has also tried watercolors and some mixed media. He wants to bring out the best in the Kalinga culture through his paintings as there is so much in the Kalinga culture that has been overlooked. One motivational story that makes him continue to do art is that of students who tend to hide their Kalinga identity due to the prejudice of the mainstream cultures. These paintings would hopefully enable them to enhance their self esteem and let them appreciate their Kalinga culture.
